The University at Albany (SUNY) and its Education Abroad Office, provide students with the possibility of enrolling in semester, summer and academic year programs through AIP Language Institute. These programs have been designed for students with beginning and intermediate Spanish proficiency who want to learn about Spanish culture and business while developing their language skills.
Sophomores, juniors, and seniors are eligible to participate. Applications are welcome from students in all majors. All candidates must meet a minimum of 2.5 GPA overall.
Our program features intensive Spanish courses at beginning, intermediate, and advanced levels taught by Spanish teachers at the AIP Language Institute.
Additional courses, taught in English, are offered in a variety of subjects, including culture, literature, art, history, and business. These courses usually carry lower-division credit.
The classes, cultural excursions and field trips with the group, and your interaction with Spaniards outside the classroom combine to give you an invaluable experience.
They offer on-site support through AIP Language Institute. Their staff is available to help you with any academic or personal concerns that may arise while you are on our program. AIP will arrange your courses, housing, and cultural excursions; they can advise you on extracurricular activities, health care, and travel opportunities and help with the adjustment to daily life in Spain.
Courses are limited to students participating on the Albany program, allowing for small class size and increased instructor-student interaction. The topics covered in the courses change each semester in order to allow students to participate for an entire year.
Classes are held Monday through Thursday to allow students the chance to travel and take
advantage of the variety of cultural opportunitiesavailable to them. Theory class and a practical or conversation class with exercises, two hours for language and study out of class and 1 hour for extracurricular activities.
Cultural tours are included as a mandatory part of the Spanish immersion program.

Participants are given the opportunity to live with host families and to experience Spanish culture first-hand. This is the perfect way to learn about Spanish families, customs, and cuisine. It is also a great way to practice and improve your Spanish skills. The families provide room and board and a variety of services, including laundry.
The families are all located at a manageable distance from the Valencia city center and our school, never more than 25 – 30 min away on public transit.
All host families work exclusively with AIP Language Institute and have been screened. In-house laundry service provided at least once a week.
